What is Connected by Nature?

What is Connected by Nature?

Connected by Nature is a free outdoor wellbeing programme for adults aged 18 and over, designed to support mental wellbeing, reduce social isolation and strengthen connections with both nature and the local community.

Set within the peaceful woodland surroundings of Kenning Park Community Forest School, the programme provides a welcoming and inclusive space where participants can relax, learn new skills and spend time with others in a supportive environment. Sessions incorporate a range of activities including nature connection, creative projects, bushcraft, campfire cooking, wellbeing activities and opportunities for informal conversation and peer support.

What makes Connected by Nature unique is that the programme is shaped by the people who attend. Activities and themes are developed around the interests, ideas and needs of the group, ensuring that sessions remain meaningful, engaging and relevant to participants.

Free lunch and refreshments are provided at every session, creating additional opportunities to socialise, share experiences and build friendships. Whether you are looking to improve your wellbeing, meet new people, develop new skills or simply enjoy spending time outdoors, Connected by Nature offers a safe and supportive space to reconnect with yourself, others and the natural world.

What to Expect

Connected by Nature offers a varied programme of outdoor and nature-based activities designed to support wellbeing, build confidence and create opportunities to connect with others in a relaxed, informal setting.

Sessions may include bushcraft and campfire cooking, seasonal foraging walks, nature crafts, wildlife activities, creative workshops and wellbeing sessions. Throughout the year, we also welcome special guests who deliver unique activities and experiences based on the interests of the group.

Activities are shaped by participants, allowing the programme to evolve around the skills, topics and experiences people would like to explore. Whether you prefer to get involved in practical activities, learn something new or simply enjoy spending time in nature, there is no pressure to participate beyond your comfort level.

What to bring

As sessions take place outdoors in all weathers, so you should wear weather-appropriate clothing. This could include a waterproof coat and trousers, wellies or sturdy shoes, and spare clothes just in case. We do have an indoor space, so don't let the weather put you off!

Reducing Barriers to Participation

We understand that attending a new group for the first time can feel overwhelming, particularly for those experiencing anxiety, low confidence, social isolation or other challenges. Connected by Nature is designed to be a welcoming, supportive and inclusive space where participants can engage in a way that feels comfortable for them.

To help reduce barriers to participation, we are happy for attendees to bring a support person, friend, family member or carer with them for as long as they need. There is no expectation to join in every activity, and individuals are encouraged to participate at their own pace and according to their own interests and comfort levels.
