Branching Out - Teens Group

A relaxed, supportive bushcraft group where teens can build skills, confidence, and friendships through hands-on outdoor experiences.

What is Branching Out?

Branching Out is a free bushcraft group for young people aged 12+. Designed especially to support teens including those with special educational needs or social anxiety the sessions provide a welcoming, small group environment with no pressure.

Young people take part in hands on outdoor activities such as shelter building, open fire cooking, carving, foraging, and site projects, while sharing food and building friendships. With safety training, ongoing projects, and opportunities including camping and residential experiences, Branching Out offers a supportive space to grow in confidence, skills, and independence.

What we do

At Branching Out, we provide a supportive, small-group environment. Our sessions focus on practical outdoor skills, teamwork, and building confidence through hands-on experience.

Young people can take part in activities or work on longer-term projects that help them develop resilience, independence, and a sense of achievement.

We prioritise a calm, no-pressure atmosphere with plenty of time and space to build friendships, where everyone feels welcome particularly those with special educational needs or social anxiety. Sessions include shared meals, full safety guidance, and opportunities for camping and residential experiences.

Branching Out also offers a pathway into becoming a volunteer apprentice with the forest school, giving young people the opportunity to continue developing their skills, confidence, and leadership within a supportive outdoor setting.

What to bring

As sessions take place outdoors in all weathers, children should wear weather-appropriate clothing. This includes a waterproof coat and trousers, wellies or sturdy shoes, and spare clothes just in case. We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothing.

Safety and Supervision

We do accept drop offs for this session but this is done on an individual basis. We ask that you attend at least the first two sessions with your young person to see if a drop off arrangement is suitable for future groups.
